Connectivity

How can we help you?

All questions on ‘Connectivity’

An API (Application Programming Interface) is best thought of as a program that transfers important pieces of information from one software platform to another. You may have an internally-built API or use an online booking system utilizing API, with the main goal being to access important product information in a single location. API can be utilized as a useful device to allow Expedia real-time access to your inventory, meaning that you can manage your product’s availability in one place using your system of choice. Prior to connecting to the Expedia LX Supplier API, we ask that you request an implementation meeting, which will allow us to align our schedules and efforts for a successful integration.

If you have any questions regarding connecting to the Expedia LX Supplier API, or to request an implementation meeting, please please use Contact Us form and we will respond as quickly as possible.

If you are using one of the booking systems or platforms listed in our Connectivity Provider Guide then please discuss connectivity with your Destination Manager directly. Connecting your API solution to Expedia does not change your contracting agreement with Expedia or how products are booked on the site. It simply streamlines some of the data flow between Expedia and your current system.

If you are using a booking system/platform that is not listed here, please ask them directly for connectivity status with Expedia Local Expert. We plan to integrate with more systems and platforms going forward.

If you represent a system or platform that would like to inquire about connectivity opportunities, please send an email to lxapi@expedia.com and one of our team members will respond with more information.

The first step is to request to be scoped by the Expedia LX Connectivity team lxapi@expedia.com. Expedia LX have strict Technical SLAs and they are non-negotiable. We have upstream services that we have to respond to within a certain time period, are to service those systems and meet their SLAs as well. We set our local SLAs to allow us to meet their requirements and for us to offer our customer the best experience possible. We keep the threshold low to be able to allow a recovery to take place during critical operations.
Many platforms don’t have the capabilities to adhere to our technical SLAs, so this needs to be vetted in advance.

We require that you:

  • Review our Technical SLAs: Using LX APIs

  • At the present time, the connectivity will enable the following features:

    • Check for availability: When a customer tries to book one of your products on Expedia, the API will automatically check availability based on what inventory you have left on your API solution prior to confirming the booking. You no longer need to send us an email when you want to place a stop sell or use our Extranet to do so.
    • Booking Confirmation: When someone books one of your products on Expedia, that booking will automatically get logged into your API solution. You will no longer receive manual booking notifications via email.
    • Cancellation Confirmation: Should a customer decide to cancel, we would change the status of that booking from “Confirmed” to “Canceled” directly in your API solution and would release availability for the tickets canceled. You will no longer receive manual cancellation notifications via email.
    • Pricing: Our system will automatically ingest and update product prices from your API solution so you do not need to manage it in our Extranet. Please contact your API provider to learn if this feature is supported.
    • Customer Information – Hotel Pick up: We capture customers’ hotel information at the time of check-out and send their details through the API to integrate directly with your API solution. Please contact your API provider to know if this feature is supported.
    • Straight To Gate Redemption: Our API ingests your bar-codes/QR-codes directly from your API solution into Expedia vouchers, making the customers’ check-in a seamless experience. You can use your own scanners to scan Expedia vouchers. Please contact your API provider to learn if this feature is supported.
    • Fraud Prevention solution: Our API has a modern built-in solution to prevent fraudulent bookings. This solution is oriented for attraction and venue products specifically but can be used by any activity provider. Please contact your API provider to find out if this feature is supported.

At the present time, the connectivity will NOT enable the following features:

    • Days of the Week Availability: The scheduled days of the week your product is available is set prior to connection and. If you change the days of the week on your API, you must also make the change on Expedia self-service tool Local Expert Partner Central (LXPC).
    • Media or Content: If you wish to make any changes to media or content, please log into our self-service tool Local Expert Partner Central (LXPC) and update it. If you need more help, please visit the Listing Maintenance section in the Help Centre.
    • Product structure: Once connected, you must remember NOT to make any changes to your product structure unless this has been discussed with your Expedia Destination Manager directly. Changing your product structure could possibly break the mapping and cause bookings to fail. Alterations you should not make include:
      • Adding/Removing/Updating ticket types (e.g. Adult, Child, Infant, etc.)
      • Adding/Removing/Updating tour options (e.g. 9AM departure, 2PM departure, etc.)

You may request to view Expedia’s API documentation. In order to do so, please contact your Destination Manager and request an introduction to the API Connectivity Team.

Note – Expedia does not prioritize direct integrations with our suppliers and it is preferred they work with one of our connected platforms. Please see our Connectivity Provider Guide for the full list.

If you are connected to Expedia via API, a heading will appear under your Supplier Name at the product level to show you the product code in the reservations platform/direct API which the Expedia product you are viewing is connected to. For example if your City Guided Tour has the product code of A12345 in Rezdy, this should appear on the same City Guided Tour loaded on Expedia at the product level as ‘Connected Via A12345’.

If the product code listed here is incorrect, please reach out to your Destination Manager directly.

If you are connected to Expedia via a reservations platform or direct API connectivity, a heading labelled ‘Connected Via Platform Name’ will appear under your Supplier Name on the LXPC Self-Service home page to remind you of the platform currently connected to and that you no longer are required to manage inventory using this tool.

If this heading is incorrect or you are no longer using the platform listed, please reach out to your Destination Manager directly.

Please reach out to your Expedia Destination Manager if you are currently connected to Expedia via API and are changing your system. While you are not connected through your new API solution, you must manage your inventory in real time on Expedia’s self-service tool Local Expert Partner Central (LXPC).

    • Access to LXPC was granted by your Destination Manager when you began your partnership with Expedia Local Expert. If you have forgotten your log-in details to LXPC, please reach out to our Supplier Support team by using the Contact Us link.
